How does it affect to our life?

Drought in Thailand has directly affected to the agriculture and water sources, due to Thailand is the country that most of the population are doing agriculture. So when drought occur the agriculture activities are affected for example the land become dry, the crops are lacked of water and not growing and the number of the crops are decreased and have low quality. The agriculture are usually affected in rainy season when there has long term precipitation deficit

Affected area

The droughts in Thailand often affect to agriculture, due to the lack of rain or drought. In the rainy season when there occur delays rain in june to july. The area in central north-eastern part of Thailand is highly affected because in this area isn’t influenced by the south-western monsoon. In addition if there is no tropical storm pass through the area the situation in this area will get worse. However there still have droughts in other area as shown on the table below.

Why does the drought in Thailand happen [Science]?

We are sure that many people have seen the soil that is very dry like the picture below. For us who live in Thailand, we always see the soil likes that in the dry area, although we live in the central part of Thailand. We want to know why does it happen and today we will show you the reason of this question.

Why does it happen [Science]?

Drought is lack of rain for a long period of time which is a combined result of climate and human activities in the area. Drought will occur when there is not enough precipitation in an area, when there is not enough rain for the ground to absorb before it is evaporated again. In particular, severe droughts tend to occur between latitudes 15 and 20, in areas adjacent to the permanently arid and continental regions.
Droughts occur when a long period of abnormally dry weather leads to a severe water shortage. Droughts are also often caused by the activity of humans and can have devastating effects.
·         Widespread cutting down of trees for fuel reduces the soil’s ability to hold water - drying out the ground, triggering desertification and leading to drought.
·         Constructing a dam on a large river may help provide electricity and water to irrigate farmland near the reservoir. However, it may also cause drought downstream by severely reducing the flow of water.

What is drought?

A drought is defined as an extended period of abnormally dry weather that causes water shortages and crop damage.

What caused the drought in Thailand?
The drought is caused by two main reasons one is caused by human and two is caused by nature. Human is the main causes that make the weather change by deforestation and development of industry that increasing more carbon dioxide in the air and carbon dioxide is a CFCs substance so if the air has more carbon dioxide it mean the earth is getting warmer because of the green house effect, and it also destroy the ozone layer that filtered the sun’s rays so the sun’s rays in the earth is increasing and it make the earth getting warmer too.
Even the main cause is human but the nature is also cause the drought in Thailand. Weather changes, the change of sea level are the example of the cause by nature. In Thailand another reason that cause the drought in Thailand are less south- west monsoon, and earlier north eastern monsoon that blow cold and dryness.

When does it happen?

It can divided into 2 period

It happens in winter to summer that start from mid-October to mid-May.

It happens in mid-rain season. It happens when there is a precipitation deficit.

Introduction

Drought is disaster that is caused by the long term lack of water in a particular area and its affects on the community. One of these areas is in the north east of Thailand. Water supply is running extremely low as the region’s major river, the Mun River, is rapidly drying up. It makes the government and everyone have to find out the way to improve this problem together. It occurs annually in Thailand. It occurs every year as there appears to be a rain shadow forming over the area. It affects people’s lives both directly and indirectly. Examples of which can be seen by in the very dry area in the north eastern past of Thailand, the farmers cannot do their planting. It makes the farmers get less income or somebody may don’t get any income. In addition, the product of crops in Thailand won’t be enough for Thai people. Therefore, the people who are the customer have to pay more money for the product from the other country. In addition, it also affect to people around the world because Thailand is one of the countries in the world that exports agricultural products at a good price.
